Meridian Treehouse Foundation

Lead Interaction Designer for an XR design decision tree & research project

Project Overview

Designed the interface and interactions for a decision tree used in XR research by Dr. Danny Pimentel. This tool was used to study how teachers use immersive technology in education.

Problem

How can we effectively assist educators in selecting appropriate AR, MR, or VR technologies for classroom use?

Additionally, what resources can we provide educators with for practical starting points for integrating these technologies into their teaching methods?

Current Status

As of May 2024, we have commenced preliminary testing with a selected group of educators to gauge the initial effectiveness and applicability of AR/MR/VR technologies in classroom settings. This phase is crucial for gathering firsthand insights and understanding the initial reactions and adaptability of the educators to these technologies.

Next Steps

Leveraging the insights gained from the initial research, we plan to refine and enhance the interaction design workflow and provided resources.

Further Research

We will retest the improved decision tree, complemented by a qualitative survey targeted at educators. The focus of this survey will be to understand how the decision tree affects educators' confidence levels regarding the implementation of XR technologies within the classroom. As well as understand which XR affordances (AR,MR,VR) are most suitable for educators.
