University of Oregon ID Card

Design & Illustration

Created the design for the new University of Oregon Student ID Cards & visitor passes. The doodle design is a drawing of campus that creates a familiar texture for the background of the card

Project Overview

To create a new ID card design that aligned with the new university brand.

Problem

The University of Oregon needed to redesign their ID cards to address multiple issues

Outdated imagery featuring a racially insensitive statue, outdated branding including an old UO logo, and privacy concerns related to the display of student ID numbers on the front of the card. This redesign was part of a larger university initiative that included updating the UO logo and the overall brand identity.

Design

Drawing upon my expertise of the campus maps, vector illustration, and adherence to the UO brand guidelines, I developed a custom map illustration of the UO campus that emphasized welcoming and vibrant community spaces. The design incorporated the newly updated UO logo, enhancing brand consistency across university materials. Importantly, I restructured the layout to move student ID numbers to the back of the card to enhance privacy.

The color variations were as follows:

UO Green for students

UO Yellow for faculty

White for university visitors

Results

My design was selected by the UO board in an open university-wide competition, reflecting its alignment with the university’s goals and its appeal to the campus community. Since its implementation in 2016, the new ID cards have been issued to all incoming students and faculty, with thousands distributed to date. These cards serve multiple purposes, functioning not only as identification but also as meal tickets and transit access tools within Eugene.
